Did I ever tell you about R’s Bread?
...When our girls were small we were blessed that I was able to stay home in their pre-school years. No, I don't mean that I stayed home and we sent them to pre-school...it was prior to their starting school.
Back then I did a lot of baking; cakes, pies, all types of desserts and bread from scratch (this was prior to bread machines). Both girls loved helping Mommy especially R. No matter what I was making she wanted to learn and show off her talents.
I remember one Sunday afternoon when she was 10, Hubby and I were watching TV and R came in and asked if she could make some bread. I was a little surprised but showed her which recipe I used and asked that she be sure to clean up her mess. Whereupon I went back to the family room. Since she was only 10 and had never baked anything by herself, I thought she would get started and become discouraged and that would be the end of that.
Some time later, she returned to the family room and announced that she had made the bread. Sure enough, she had completed her task and done a wonderful job. The bread was delicious and she had cleaned up her mess!
This reminds me of another time when she was a little younger and her dad was making a birthday cake for either R's younger sister (CJ) or me. R wanted to help and of course Dad couldn't turn her down. We had a KitchenAid stand mixer and R had hair almost to her waste. Can you guess what happened? Yep, she leaned over the mixer and her hair got tangled in the blade.
I don't know who was more distressed, R or me. We managed to get it all unwound without having to cut her beautiful long curls. And yes, we threw away the cake at that point!
